ASU-Sichuan University partnership designing future of higher education

ASU’s partnership with China’s Sichuan University continues to expand. The most recent manifestation was a visit, Aug. 4 through 6, by Jian Shi, Sichuan University’s vice president for global engagement, and Shijing Yan, the director of Sichuan’s Office of International Affairs. Unfortunately, bad weather grounded Shi in Chicago. Yan made it to Arizona for a series of meetings at ASU, which Shi joined by teleconference.

United Arab Emirates official meets with ASU officials

Sultan Saeed Nasser AlMansoori, minister of economy for the United Arab Emirates, met with ASU President Michael Crow and other university officials July 31 as part of a daylong visit to ASU conducted by the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement.

AlMansoori is an ASU alum, having earned a degree in industrial engineering and management systems here during the late 1980s.

ASU hosts student group from Palestinian territories

On July 28, the Office of the Vice President for Global Engagement played host to a group of nine students from Palestinian territories who were traveling in the United States as part of “A Project for the Palestinian Territories.”The project is a three-week program focused on American studies under the auspices of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.The program, designed for students enrolled in classes or programs that study U.S.

ASU ignites China's youth for Mars exploration

Forty highly energized Chinese high school students, racing a deadline, used bagfuls of everyday materials from the dollar store to build models of the first human outpost on Mars. The students, who came from all over China, were competing in the final round of the China Youth Space Academy, an academic challenge joint partnership with Arizona State University, the Chinese government-run Web site, China.com.cn, and Beijing's Flying Spirit advertising agency.
