International Nikkei Legacy Project
APAS is an affiliate member of this international project spearheaded by the Japanese American National Museum.
Our role within this project is to archive the Nikkei holdings in the state of Arizona as a contribution to the forthcoming DISCOVER NIKKEI website which will feature resources, and information about Nikkei communities worldwide.

Y. F. Wu Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Scholarships
This scholarship provides financial support to Asian American students who aspire to higher education in Arizona. Students from the Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian, Asian American, or Pacific Islander communities are encouraged to apply.
Asian LEAD Academy
The Asian LEAD Academy was established in 1994 to provide opportunities and resources for youth, particularly Asian American and Pacific Islander high school students and incoming college freshmen, to reach their full potential as leaders in a multi-cultural society

THEMIS
The Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) is an instrument on board the Mars Odyssey spacecraft. It combines a 5-wavelength visual imaging system with a 9-wavelength infrared imaging system.
Mini-Thermal Emission Spectrometer
Student Imaging Project (MSIP)
NASA and Arizona State University’s Mars Education Program is offering students nationwide the opportunity to be involved in authentic Mars research by participating in the Mars Student Imaging Project (MSIP). Teams of students in grades 5 through college sophomore level will have the opportunity to work with scientists, mission planners and educators on the THEMIS team at ASU’s Mars Space Flight Facility, to image a site on Mars using the THEMIS visible wavelength camera onboard the Mars Odyssey spacecraft, which is currently orbiting Mars every 2 hours.
ASU-NASA Orion Mission
ORION is a NASA MIDEX Mission proposal to construct and fly an optical/UV orbiting telescope to survey star formation environments near and far, under Principal Investigator Dr. Paul Scowen. The NASA AO for the next round of MIDEX missions is scheduled for release in October 2007. This round would result in a launch in late 2013.
AzGATES
The Arizona Grants Access Tool and Experts Source (AzGATES) helps users identify and apply for grants, with special emphasis on the U.S. Mexico border region.
Arizona State University launched the site in June 2005 through a partnership with the Arizona-Mexico Commission, a cross-border nonprofit organization chaired by Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano.

Center for Asian Studies
The Center promotes Asian Studies at ASU and fosters greater understanding of Asia through a wide variety of research and outreach activities including teacher training, curriculum development, scholarly conferences, public symposia, film series, and exhibitions. The Center for Asian Research is part of the School of Global Studies and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Center for Latin American Research
Thematically the Center focuses on Latin American educational, health and environmental issues by partnering with related departments in the university. While dealing with the broad geographic area, the Center’s core regions are the Andean Region, Argentina, Border Studies, Brazil, Central America, Chile, and Mexico.
Principal activities of the Center include:
Coordinating student exchange programs throughout Latin America
Organizing seminars and research conferences on the region
Sponsoring events featuring Latin American arts and culture
Initiating and facilitating research about the Inter-American region

Amazon and Andes Field School
This program takes place during the ASU Winter and Summer intercessions in an Amazonian Quichua community located on the banks of the Napo River, with shorter stays during the Summer Program in Andean communities near Otavalo and Salasaca. Students (which include undergraduates, graduates, and K-12 school teachers and community college professors) attend classes daily and live within the Quichua speaking communities that they study. To date, over 200 students from various U.S. institutions of higher education have participated in the Field School where they receive introduction to elementary and advanced Quichua language and culture. Beginning courses in Shuar or Waorani, two other indigenous languages of the Ecuadorian Amazon, are available as well. Several alumni of the Field School have returned in following years for additional linguistic and cultural immersion.

The ASU/Mayo Partnership for Collaborative Research (PARCORE) offers a Seed Grant Program to encourage new collaborative research projects between ASU investigators and Mayo Clinic Scottsdale investigators. The projects selected for funding are those that involve an active, hands-on role of both the ASU investigators and the Mayo investigators. The projects are well-conceived pilot studies that have a high probability of leading to a later submission to the National Institutes of Health.

Arizona State University (ASU) is proud to present its partnership with El Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnologia (CONACYT) in Mexico. This historic agreement grants 75 fellowships for Mexican graduate students to study at ASU in addition to providing other funding for research and exchanges.

The Edson Student Entrepreneur Initiative provides $200,000 each year to student-led entrepreneurial ventures of all types. Brazilian Literature Seminar and Language Workshop
This NEH Seminar will focus on five major works of Brazilian urban fiction, basically from the twentieth century. Through a detailed examination of these works as literary texts that interpret the urban experience in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Curitiba , and Porto Alegre, the seminar will provide participants with an important grounding in Brazilian literature.

As part of the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, IPO administers university study programs abroad, visiting scholar programs at ASU, and protocol for international visitors. It has one of the first U.S. Passport offices on a university campus.

Arizona State University hosts a large number of foreign students, researchers, and professors, who add an international dimension to our campus. More than 147 nationalities are represented in the student body. Of the 2,991 international students, 68 percent are from Asia, 9 percent from Europe, 8 percent from the Middle East, 7 percent from Latin America, 4 percent from North America, and 3 percent from Africa.

Telecommunications Research Center
The Telecommunication Research Center is a multidisciplinary research center that includes researchers from electrical engineering, computer science and engineering, materials, electronics, and bioengineering. The TRC is an ASU Board-of-Regents-approved center with research focused on information technology; wireless and wireline communications; networking; antennas; radio-frequency; mixed-signal analog/digital electronics; embedded systems; and multimedia and bioinformatics .
The TRC's major research activities are supported by industrial partners, including Texas Instruments, ON Semiconductors, Philips, Motorola, Intel, Primarion, National Semiconductors, and government agencies, such as the National Science Foundation, DARPA, the Navy, and the Army.
