Fund a school in Malawi - Win lunch with President Crow or Lisa Love
You have an opportunity to win a lunch date with Dr. Michael Crow, president of Arizona State University, or Lisa Love, the vice president of university athletics, by purchasing a raffle ticket that will help fund the establishment of a ground-breaking school for women and girls in Malawi, south central Africa.
The school is planned for construction near the capital city of Lilongwe. Although funds are required to build and staff the school, as well as provide equipment and supplies, it will eventually be sustained and supported by a local (Malawi) nonprofit enterprise that will also provide local villagers with employment.
In Malawi:
- Girls are typically unable to receive an education beyond primary school
- Women do most of the physical labor
- 75% of the farmers are women
- Men control the finances
- With little education, women are dependent on men
Purchase your raffle ticket for $100 by calling 480-951-9250 or emailing jan.snyder@asu.edu. The drawing will be held in spring 2008. Sponsored by the Tempe Rio Salado Rotary Club.
